Pandemic situation |
The virus is highly infective.
However, around 86% of infections cause only mild symptoms, as known of March 31, 2020. So far, the test rates are low, and numbers partially insecure. However, the leftover ~15% infected population do exhibit symptoms with coughing, fever, ..., lung inflammation, and about 5% develop serious disease, and are in demand of intensive care with varying extent of fatal casualities of up to 1% of the infected, depending on the extend of the epidemy progress. With no immunity among the population so far and without vaccination and medication, the spreading of Covid-19 is proceeding exponentially, and is predicted to potentially call for millions of death cases unless serious measures are taken to flatten the spreading curve https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/11/science/coronavirus-curve-mitigation-infection.html .
